9-1-1 fans — spoilers are ahead in case you haven’t watched the most recent season 8 episode. The series just lost a major character, and fans are reeling from the loss. Weeks after social media users speculated about on-set photos that resembled a funeral scene, viewers expressed their fury and sadness over the death of Peter Krause‘s character, Captain Robert Nash, a.k.a Bobby. So, one question still hangs in the air for everyone who watched the recent episode: why did 9-1-1 kill off Bobby?

What Happened to Bobby in 911?

During the final moments of the April 2025 season 8 episode, Bobby is revealed to have a hole in his breathing apparatus, which lets the virus into his mask and infects him. He quarantines himself from the rest of the 118 crew, and he doesn’t initially tell anyone about the hole because Chimney would never take the antidote.

Bobby and Athena’s final moments are heart-wrenching. As he bids his love “farewell,” Bobby tearfully apologizes and says, “This isn’t how I wanted to leave you. I’m not choosing to leave you. I chose to save my team because it was the right thing to do. It was never because I wanted to go. I don’t want to go. If I could choose, I would stay with you. Always. … L.A. was supposed to be my penance, not my home. And then you said yes to a dinner invitation and I started to live again. I love you, baby.”

Why Did They Kill Off Bobby in 911?

Peter released a statement on his character’s on-screen death in a statement obtained by Variety. He said that the reason behind Bobby’s death is because his “story arc honors” real-life first responders.

“I’ve heard that many fans are upset by this loss, and they have a right to be. It is a loss,” Peter said after the episode aired. “That said, it was more than a bold creative choice on a bold show. Bobby Nash was written in sacrifice and he was built for this. First responders risk their lives on the job so that others can see another day. His story arc honors them.”

Peter added in his statement, “We at 9-1-1 salute all the incredible men and women who do these dangerous jobs and strive to keep us safe. Our show is incredibly difficult to make at times with long hours, challenging stunts and elaborate disasters. We couldn’t do it without each other.”

9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear explained to Variety  that ABC did not want Bobby off the show, but rather, the director and screenwriter had to “convince” them to greenlight this character’s conclusion.

“I had to convince everybody about this,” Tim told the outlet after the emotional episode aired. “The network was not like, ‘Yeah, get rid of him, it’ll save us money.’ It was nothing like that. I had to pitch this at the highest levels and just walk through the whole story and try to infect them — funny choice of words, given the storyline — because, as I pitched it, you could understand, as a writer, how suddenly the whole world felt more alive. It felt more real because this thing had happened.”

Why Did Peter Krause Leave 911?

Peter opened up about his departure from 9-1-1. During an April 18, 2025, Good Morning American interview, the Six Feet Under alum acknowledged that the drama series “was [his] workplace home for eight years, eight seasons.”

9-1-1 showrunner Tim emphasized that Peter did not ask to leave the show. Instead, Bobby’s death was “entirely a creative decision on my part, really,” Tim told TV Line in an interview published on April 17, 2025.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” Tim said, referring to Bobby’s final moments on the show. “I kind of hinted at it in the “Hot Shots” episode when Brad Torrance is saying that [his character] isn’t going wake up from his coma, and he had that fan going, ‘You can’t kill him off! He’s what holds the [firehouse] together!’ I was really thinking seriously about it when we wrote that scene.”

Tim also noted that if “the stakes are never real” in the series, then “there’s really no chance that any of this peril in which these characters find themselves amounts to anything.” He even added, “I think the show could die” without including realistic risks that first responders take.

Will There Be a Season 9 of 911?

Yes, ABC renewed 9-1-1 for a season 9, which is projected to premiere in the fall of 2025.

Dragon is Sommer’s first foray into feature-length filmmaking and it stands as his most ambitious project yet. Set in a medieval world, the film follows a group of knights as they recount old battles and tales of legend.

Dragon invites the audience into a cinematic experience that challenges the notion of traditional film. “I wanted the visuals to feel slightly disorienting but cinematic at the same time,” Sommer explained. “More like a dream you don’t realize you’re having until you wake up.”

When asked about his filmmaking process, Sommer said. “I’ve always had a strong visual sense. I’ve loved movies since I was a kid and I grew up on filmmakers like James Cameron. It was always my goal to make a feature.”

Series creator, writer, and executive producer Charlie Brooker teased that the new season will tap into a sense of nostalgia for longtime fans, describing it as a return to “OG Black Mirror,” according to Netflix.

“They’re all sci-fi stories, but there’s definitely some horrifying things that occur—just maybe not in an overt horror movie way,” Brooker said. “There’s definitely some disturbing content in it.”

Season 7 of Black Mirror consists of six episodes—and according to Brooker, two of them are essentially feature-length.

“We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length,” Brooker shared during Netflix’s annual Geeked Week in September 2024. “Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”

The season concludes with “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” a direct sequel to the acclaimed Season 4 episode “USS Callister,” which won four Primetime Emmy Awards in 2018.

Who’s in the Cast of Black Mirror Season 7?

Season 7 of Black Mirror brings together a star-studded ensemble, including Paul Giamatti, Emma Corrin, Awkwafina, Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Will Poulter. They’re joined by a talented supporting cast featuring Issa Rae, Michele Austin, Ben Bailey Smith, Asim Chaudhry, James Nelson-Joyce, Jay Simpson, and many others.

Ahead of the premiere, Brooker spoke with Netflix’s Tudum, expressing his excitement about this season’s lineup:
“It’s a thrill working with great actors. It makes everything better,” he said. “They tease out aspects of the character that I hadn’t considered. We traditionally have a mix of well-known faces and up-and-comers, and I think that’s true in this season.”

This come in the wake of Majors being cast in the upcoming revenge thriller Merciless, directed by Martin Villeneuve.

True Threat follows Special Forces operative ‘Vernon Threat’ (Majors) as he embarks on a relentless quest for justice after his teenage son is murdered by a Harlem gang known as The Apollo Kids. Determined to take revenge, Threat infiltrates The Carter, a towering 20-story project building that serves as the gang’s stronghold, battling his way to the top floor to confront their leader and his former mentor, ‘Shallow.’ Combining gripping action with deep themes of fatherhood, brotherhood, and community responsibility, True Threat promises to deliver a culturally urgent and relentlessly kinetic experience.

True Threat is the next production from CAT5, the action-focused film label launched by Alexis Garcia last year with the backing of Fifth Season. McMurray directs from a script he co-wrote with Hodge K. Johnson, with SAG Award nominee Larnell Stovall overseeing the film’s action design. True Threat will prominently feature 52 Blocks, a Black American martial arts style, making it the first major film to showcase the discipline.

A Primetime Emmy, Critics’ Choice, SAG Awards nominee, Jonathan Majors, can currently be seen starring in Elijah Bynum’s Magazine Dreams, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and won the Special Jury Award before its March 21 release of this year via Briarcliff Entertainment.

Majors’ breakout performance in A24’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco earned critical acclaim. He went on to star in HBO’s 2x Emmy winning Lovecraft Country, Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, and Devotion opposite Glen Powell. Majors’ turn in Creed III opposite Michael B. Jordan helped deliver a record-breaking domestic opening for the franchise ($58.3M) and the biggest domestic release ever for a sports film ($156.2M). Last November, Majors’ ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari dropped the federal lawsuit in which she accused him of assault and defamation from an incident in March 2023.

We are hearing the deals for Spector’s life rights and for Be My Baby, the memoir she wrote with Vince Waldron, remain in tact. The film is in development with Luca Guadagnino writer Kajganich who is hard at work on the expressive interpretation of Spector’s life which Zendaya and Jenkins are after.

A24 landed the hot spec in 2022 and will produce along with Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, Tom Shelly, and Zendaya. Jonathan Greenfield will executive produce. Before her passing, Spector was an executive producer on the film and hand-selected Zendaya to play her. Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak, Jenkin’s partners at Pastel, will also be joining as producers.

This marks yet another collaboration for A24 and Jenkins, including Best Picture winner Moonlight and the upcoming Sundance darling Sorry, Baby, in which Jenkins served as a producer. This is also the third collaboration for A24 and Zendaya following the Emmy-Award winning Euphoria and the upcoming film The Drama co-starring Robert Pattinson. She is repped by CAA and Monster Talent Management, and Granderson Des Rochers.

Jenkins recently directed Mufasa for Disney which has crossed $720 million at the global box office. The film recently hit another milestone becoming the sixth highest grossing film of 2024, passing Dune Part Two. He most notably directed Best Picture Winner Moonlight, which also won him the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay. Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk received three Oscar nominations and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Film. His limited series Underground Railroad won him best limited series at the Golden Globes and BAFTA and earned Jenkins a DGA Award for Best Director. It also scored seven Emmy nominations.

He also recently teamed with busy A-lister Glen Powell on the adult sci-fi pic The Natural Order for Universal. The pic is based on the upcoming novel by Matt Aldrich and has Powell starring and Jenkins directing. Jenkins is repped by CAA, manager Jewerl Keats Ross and lawyer Jamie Feldman.

What makes this red carpet and film so special? Judy was part of the only recorded miracle that happened in Nashville TN in 1956. As a baby only a few months old, her mother jumped off the Shelby Street Bridge on Christmas Eve holding baby Judy in her arms. As the freezing cold waters of the Cumberland river bashed on both Judy and Marguerite, a rescue had already been underway from two hero’s working at the bridge company.
